Known Lag Problems
These problems are reported by real players. If your region or ISP is listed, a network optimizer is likely to help.
Southeast Asia (playing on iRO)
150-300ms- SEA players on iRO face 150–300ms baseline ping due to cross-Pacific routing
- ISP routes in PH, ID, and VN often take suboptimal paths to US-based iRO servers
- The dedicated SEA server (Gravity Game Hub) exists but has a separate economy and patch schedule, so many players still prefer iRO for its player base
Brazil (bRO / playing on iRO)
180-350ms- Brazilian players on iRO experience 200–350ms due to cross-Atlantic/US routing
- bRO (Brazil) server has smaller player base vs iRO, causing some players to use iRO despite high ping
What players commonly report
- Skill lag during War of Emperium (WoE) castle sieges
- Cross-region high ping for SEA players on iRO
- GameGuard compatibility issues on some regional clients
- TCP-based protocol makes the game sensitive to jitter and packet loss
- Server disconnects during large GvG events
How to Fix It
Try these first — they're free and solve the problem for most people.
01 Check your ping to the game server using Windows tools
1. While in-game, open Windows Resource Monitor (search 'resmon' in Start) 2. Go to the Network tab → TCP Connections 3. Find ragexe.exe or ragexeRE.exe in the list 4. Note the 'Remote Address' column — that is your game server IP 5. Open Command Prompt and type: ping <server IP> -t 6. Watch the ms values — spikes above your baseline indicate routing instability
Ragnarok Online has no built-in /ping command. This external method gives you a real-time baseline. If ping spikes during WoE or MVP hunts, the problem is your connection or routing. If ping is stable but skills still feel delayed, the issue is server-side load.
02 Use a wired connection instead of WiFi
1. Connect your PC to your router with an Ethernet cable 2. Disable WiFi in Windows Settings → Network & Internet → WiFi 3. Relaunch the RO client 4. Check /ping — you should see lower jitter even if raw ping is similar
WiFi jitter is the most common cause of skill lag in RO. Even a stable 80ms wired connection beats fluctuating 40–100ms WiFi for smooth gameplay.
03 Select the correct regional server at login
1. At the RO server select screen, choose the server closest to your physical location 2. For iRO players in SEA: check if a dedicated SEA option exists, or consider the Gravity Game Hub SEA server (ro.ggh.games) instead 3. Avoid manually overriding your gateway to connect to non-local servers unless you have a routing solution in place
Connecting to the wrong regional server adds 100–300ms of avoidable latency. Cross-region play is common in RO but requires a stable routing path.
General network tips (not Ragnarok Online-specific)
04 Close background download and streaming apps before WoE
1. Before War of Emperium or GvG, close torrent clients, game updaters, and streaming apps 2. Check Task Manager → Network column to find processes using bandwidth 3. End tasks for anything consuming more than a few KB/s 4. RO uses minimal bandwidth, but shared connections cause jitter spikes under load
RO's TCP-based protocol is sensitive to jitter. Even light background traffic during a castle siege can cause visible skill delays and disconnects.
Regions with good connectivity
Players in these regions likely won't benefit much from a network optimizer.
- South Korea — kRO players have sub-30ms to Gravity's native servers — no optimization needed
- Japan — jRO is available; Japanese players have good connectivity to the regional server
Still lagging? The problem is likely your ISP's routing to the game servers.
PingAim detects Ragnarok Online automatically
No manual config. PingAim identifies Ragnarok Online by process name and routes it through your fastest connection using a kernel-level WFP driver.
