Ragnarok Online FAQ — Ping, Servers, Network

Does PingAim work with Ragnarok Online? Why does Ragnarok Online have high ping when I'm far from the server?

MMO Free to Play Gravity Co., Ltd., 2002
Does PingAim work with Ragnarok Online?

Yes. PingAim uses a kernel-level WFP network driver that works below both EasyAntiCheat (used by iRO on Steam) and nProtect GameGuard (used by regional servers). It routes the ragexe.exe or ragexeRE.exe process through your chosen network interface without modifying any game files. No bans have been reported for using network routing tools with RO.

Why does Ragnarok Online have high ping when I'm far from the server?

Ragnarok Online has separate regional servers — kRO in Korea, iRO in North America, SEA servers in the Philippines/Singapore, and others. If you play on a server in a different region from where you live, your traffic travels across international routes that may be poorly optimized by your ISP. PingAim lets you route RO through a second connection (like 5G tethering) that may have better international peering.

Why do my skills lag in Ragnarok Online even with decent ping?

RO uses TCP exclusively and processes all skill activations server-side. Jitter — ping variation — is often more damaging than high but stable latency. A connection that bounces between 50ms and 150ms feels worse than a steady 100ms. Check your ping using Resource Monitor or 'ping <server IP> -t' in Command Prompt (RO has no built-in /ping command). Wired Ethernet over WiFi is the single most effective fix, as WiFi jitter is the top cause of skill lag in RO.

What is the best server to play Ragnarok Online on?

Play on the server geographically closest to you: kRO for Korean players, iRO for North American players, Gravity Game Hub (GGH) for Southeast Asian players, bRO for Brazilian players, and tRO for Thai players. Cross-region play is possible but adds significant latency — 150–300ms is typical for e.g. a Filipino player on iRO versus 30–60ms on the SEA server.

Does Ragnarok Online use UDP or TCP?

Ragnarok Online uses TCP exclusively for all client-server communication, including login (port 6900) and zone/map servers (port 6121). This is unusual for modern online games — most use UDP for lower latency. TCP's connection overhead means RO is more sensitive to packet loss and jitter than UDP games, since dropped packets must be retransmitted before the client can proceed.

What anti-cheat does Ragnarok Online use?

It depends on your regional server. The iRO (International) server on Steam uses EasyAntiCheat (EAC), a kernel-level system owned by Epic Games. Some regional servers — including LATAM and certain SEA versions — still use nProtect GameGuard, an older Korean kernel-level anti-cheat. Both are incompatible with DLL injection, so network optimization must happen at the OS network driver level.

PingAim detects Ragnarok Online automatically

No manual config. PingAim identifies Ragnarok Online by process name and routes it through your fastest connection using a kernel-level WFP driver.
