How to Fix Lag

Try these first — they're free and solve the problem for most people.

01 Use the server browser ping display to pick low-latency servers

In the FiveM launcher, open the server browser and sort by ping. The browser shows real-time latency to each server. Avoid servers above 100ms if you want smooth driving and combat sync.

Choosing a geographically closer server eliminates the problem entirely — PingAim further reduces the gap on top

02 Monitor ping in-game with F8 console

While connected to a server, press F8 to open the FiveM console. Type 'netgraph 1' and press Enter. This overlays real-time ping, packet loss, and tick rate. Watch for loss > 0% and jitter spikes.

Diagnostic — identifies whether lag is network latency, packet loss, or server-side performance

03 Check if the RP server runs OneSync Infinity

High-population RP servers (300+ players) use OneSync Infinity. These servers require lower latency because the state sync load is higher — more entity updates per tick. Join servers geographically close to you for best OneSync performance.

High-slot OneSync servers are more sensitive to latency than low-slot standard servers

General network tips (not FiveM-specific)
04 Route both FiveM.exe and GTA5.exe in PingAim

FiveM generates network traffic across two processes: FiveM.exe (launcher, resource downloads) and GTA5.exe (gameplay UDP). Add both to PingAim to ensure all game traffic is routed through the optimal interface.

Ensures full coverage — routing only one process leaves the other on the default ISP path

05 Use wired Ethernet instead of WiFi

Connect directly to your router via Ethernet cable. FiveM is sensitive to jitter, which WiFi introduces even on low-ping connections. Jitter causes rubber-banding and desync more than raw latency.

Eliminates WiFi-induced jitter — the most common cause of FiveM desync complaints

06 Close resource-heavy background apps during RP sessions

Pause game downloads (Steam, Epic, Windows Update), close streaming apps, and disable cloud sync. FiveM gameplay uses modest bandwidth but is sensitive to latency spikes caused by background traffic competing for router queue.

Prevents bufferbloat on home routers — keeps game UDP packets at low latency even during background downloads

Still lagging? The problem is likely your ISP's routing to the game servers.

PingAim detects FiveM automatically

No manual config. PingAim identifies FiveM by process name and routes it through your fastest connection using a kernel-level WFP driver.
