StarCraft II FAQ — Ping, Servers, Network

Does PingAim work with StarCraft II? Why does my ping affect both players in StarCraft II?

Does PingAim work with StarCraft II?

Yes. PingAim auto-detects SC2_x64.exe and routes its traffic through your optimal network interface using a WFP kernel driver. It operates at the Windows network stack level — completely outside the SC2 process — and is invisible to Blizzard's Warden anti-cheat.

Why does my ping affect both players in StarCraft II?

StarCraft II uses lockstep networking — a system where only inputs are sent over the network and both clients simulate the exact same game. To keep both simulations synchronized, the game waits for all players' inputs before advancing each turn. If your connection is slow, the turn timer increases for everyone. Reducing your ping directly reduces this shared command delay.

What is a good ping for StarCraft II competitive play?

Below 50ms is excellent — command response feels near-instant. 50–100ms is playable but noticeable at high APM. Above 100ms causes visible command lag and the adaptive latency buffer increases, slowing down game response for both players. Professional Korean players typically play at <20ms on the KR server.

Is using a network optimizer like PingAim allowed in StarCraft II?

Yes. Network optimizers that route traffic at the OS level (not inside the game process) are safe to use. PingAim uses a WFP kernel driver that routes network packets without injecting into SC2_x64.exe — it is completely outside Warden's scanning scope. WTFast and ExitLag are also officially supported for SC2 with no ban history.

Why is my ping high in StarCraft II even with fast internet?

Bandwidth (speed) and ping (latency) are unrelated. A 1 Gbps connection can still have 200ms ping if your ISP routes traffic through 20 hops to reach Blizzard's servers. High ping in SC2 is almost always caused by your ISP's routing inefficiency or congestion to Blizzard's Battle.net infrastructure. PingAim routes SC2 traffic through a faster, more direct path.

Does StarCraft II still have active servers?

Yes. While Blizzard officially stopped new content development in November 2022, the game remains online and actively supported. Ladder, custom games, and arcade are all available. GSL (Korea) and ESL Pro Tour tournaments continue running. Server infrastructure is maintained with no announced shutdown date.

PingAim detects StarCraft II automatically

No manual config. PingAim identifies StarCraft II by process name and routes it through your fastest connection using a kernel-level WFP driver.
