Lost Ark uses Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC), developed by Kamu and acquired by Epic Games. On Windows, EAC runs a kernel-mode driver (EasyAntiCheat.sys) that loads when the game starts. This is not a boot-level driver like Riot's Vanguard — it starts only when the game launches. EAC on Linux/Proton runs in user mode only. The kernel driver monitors processes, memory access patterns, and system calls for cheat software signatures.
VPN and network optimizers
Network optimizers (ExitLag, WTFast, LagoFast, GearUp Booster) are officially supported and widely used with Lost Ark without bans. However, EAC's documentation warns that VPN or proxy services can interfere with EAC initialization and prevent the game from launching — this is a technical conflict, not a ban risk. If EAC detects a VPN-related virtual adapter that resembles tampering, it may block launch. Users should add their network optimizer to firewall/antivirus exceptions and ensure EAC is not blocked.

Lost Ark's action combat requires precise timing on both offensive skills and defensive dodges (called 'identity' mechanics and 'counter' windows). Legion Raid mechanics impose tight reaction windows — a 200ms delay (per Raaen 2014 action-game tolerance study, which finds noticeable degradation around 100ms and major degradation past 200ms) can mean missing a counter hit on a boss, failing to dodge a one-shot pattern, or landing a debuff after the target window has closed. In PvP, skill combos require chaining abilities with minimal input delay. Unlike traditional MMOs with GCD-gated gameplay, Lost Ark is closer to an action game in its timing demands — high ping (150ms+) makes raid mechanics unreliable and PvP essentially unplayable at competitive level.
