Known Lag Problems
These problems are reported by real players. If your region or ISP is listed, a network optimizer is likely to help.
Southeast Asia / Oceania
150-300ms to NA/EU hosted sessions- P2P architecture means ping to host varies based on where the lobby host is located
- Most English-language lobbies are hosted by players in North America or Europe — 150-300ms for SEA/Oceania players joining these sessions
- No server region selection available — only solution is to play with local friends or host yourself
South America
100-250ms to NA-hosted sessions- Most public lobbies hosted in NA or EU — 100-250ms from South America
- No dedicated server regions — only option is to play in friend groups with local hosts
What players commonly report
- 'Can't interact' with items and doors due to high latency to host
- Creature positions teleporting or stuttering when host has poor connection
- Host migration not implemented — if host disconnects, session ends for everyone
- Desync between clients on loot pickups (two players grab same item)
- Voice chat (Dissonance) cutting out or having echo when connection is unstable
How to Fix It
Try these first — they're free and solve the problem for most people.
01 Switch to a wired Ethernet connection
1. Get a Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet cable and connect your PC to the router 2. In Windows: Settings → Network & Internet → Wi-Fi → turn off Wi-Fi 3. Your PC automatically uses the wired connection 4. Check Task Manager → Performance → Ethernet — latency shown under 'Link speed' should be consistent 5. WiFi adds 5-30ms of unpredictable jitter; in Lethal Company, jitter causes item interaction failures more than raw ping does
Eliminates WiFi-induced jitter, which is a primary cause of 'can't interact' failures and creature position stuttering in Lethal Company. Free fix requiring only a cable.
02 Close background bandwidth consumers
1. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc → Task Manager → Performance → Open Resource Monitor 2. Network tab — sort by 'Total (B/sec)' to find bandwidth users 3. Pause: Windows Update (Settings → Update → Pause 7 days), torrents, OneDrive sync, cloud backups 4. Close or minimize Discord video/screen share streams (voice-only is fine) 5. Launch Lethal Company after clearing the background load
UDP game packets compete with downloads for your router's upload/download queue. A mid-run Windows Update or torrent download can spike your ping by 100-300ms, causing sudden 'can't interact' episodes or missed creature audio cues.
03 Verify Lethal Company files on Steam
1. Open Steam → Library → right-click Lethal Company → Properties 2. Click 'Local Files' → 'Verify integrity of game files' 3. Steam checks all game files against the manifest and redownloads any corrupted ones 4. This takes 1-5 minutes — launch the game afterward
Corrupted Unity networking DLLs or game assets can cause abnormal disconnects, lag spikes, and lobby failures that look like network issues but are actually file corruption. Verification fixes this at no cost.
Lethal Company uses Steam Datagram Relay. PingAim optimizes the path your ISP controls.
General network tips (not Lethal Company-specific)
04 Check your ping to the session host
1. Lethal Company does not show a built-in ping display by default 2. While in a session, open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) → Performance → Open Resource Monitor → Network tab 3. Find 'Lethal Company.exe' in the process list — the Send and Receive columns show active UDP traffic 4. For a proper ping reading, install the free PingPlotter (pingplotter.com) and trace the Steam relay IP you see in Resource Monitor 5. Alternatively, install the PingHUD mod from Thunderstore (thunderstore.io/c/lethal-company) — it adds a small in-game latency overlay 6. A value above 150ms means you will likely experience interaction delays and creature teleportation
Confirms whether your lag is a network problem (high/unstable ping to host) or a local performance issue (FPS drops with stable ping). Essential first step before trying any fix.
05 Be the host — or play with nearby friends
1. In the main menu, select 'Host' instead of joining a lobby 2. Set the lobby to Friends Only to keep your session stable 3. As host, your machine runs the game logic — you have 0ms 'ping' to the server because you ARE the server 4. If joining others: play with friends in the same city or country. Proximity between you and the host is the single biggest factor in connection quality 5. Avoid random public lobbies with hosts in other continents — you have no control over that ping
The most effective fix for P2P lag. Hosting eliminates your own ping entirely. Playing locally with friends keeps all players within 20-50ms of each other, which is the sweet spot for Lethal Company's netcode.
Regions with good connectivity
Players in these regions likely won't benefit much from a network optimizer.
- North America — Majority of public lobbies are hosted by NA players. NA players joining NA-hosted sessions typically achieve 20-60ms.
- Western Europe — Large player base means many EU-hosted lobbies available. EU players joining EU-hosted sessions typically achieve 20-80ms.
Still lagging? The problem is likely your ISP's routing to the game servers.
PingAim detects Lethal Company automatically
No manual config. PingAim identifies Lethal Company by process name and routes it through your fastest connection using a kernel-level WFP driver.
