Does PingAim work with Deadlock?
Yes. PingAim auto-detects project8.exe (Deadlock's executable name) and routes its traffic through your optimal network interface using a WFP kernel driver. It is fully compatible with VAC — PingAim operates at the Windows network level and does not modify the game client in any way.
Why does Deadlock still run as project8.exe?
Deadlock was codenamed 'Project 8' internally at Valve. The executable has never been renamed despite community requests on the official forum. When targeting the game in PingAim or any network optimizer, use the process name project8.exe. Valve may rename it upon the full public release.
Why is my ping high in Deadlock even with fast internet?
Internet speed (bandwidth) and latency (ping) are different things. High ping in Deadlock is usually caused by your ISP routing packets through inefficient paths to Valve's SDR relays. Even on a 500 Mbps connection, if your ISP sends traffic through congested links or unnecessary routing hops, ping will be high. PingAim routes your game traffic through the fastest available network path, bypassing ISP-level routing decisions.
Does Deadlock use Steam Datagram Relay (SDR)?
Yes. Like all modern Valve multiplayer games (CS2, Dota 2), Deadlock routes all traffic through SDR, which encrypts game packets and relays them through Valve's global backbone. SDR optimizes the relay-to-server path, but the hop from your PC to the nearest SDR relay still depends entirely on your ISP — this is where PingAim helps.
What ping is acceptable for Deadlock?
Below 40ms is excellent — shooting feels tight and parry timing is reliable. 40-80ms is playable with minor hit registration differences. Above 80ms you may notice shots not registering as expected and parry windows becoming unreliable. Above 120ms makes the shooter mechanics significantly impaired, though the MOBA elements are still functional.
Can I get banned for using a network optimizer in Deadlock?
No. Multiple third-party network optimizers (LagoFast, GearUP Booster, WTFast) officially support Deadlock without any reports of bans. VAC only detects game client modifications and cheats — not network routing tools. PingAim's WFP driver operates at the Windows network stack level, invisible to the game itself.
How do I check which server region Deadlock connects me to?
Press F7 during a match to open the console and type net_graph 1. You can also test different regions manually with: citadel_region_override 0 (NA Central/Chicago), 1 (Europe/Stockholm), 2 (Asia/Hong Kong), 3 (South America/Santiago), 5 (Oceania/Sydney). Use -1 to return to automatic.
