Helldivers 2
Got a phone and WiFi? In a P2P game like Helldivers 2, your ping is to another player's machine — not a datacenter. PingAim picks whichever of your connections has the best path to the session host, so your squad stops rubberbanding mid-extraction.
Does PingAim Help in Helldivers 2?
More about Nprotect Gameguardhow it works · what it blocks · known conflicts
Helldivers 2 uses nProtect GameGuard by INCA Internet — a kernel-level (ring-0) anti-cheat driver. GameGuard installs a kernel driver that starts before the game and monitors system-level processes. It has been controversial due to its invasive nature and documented compatibility issues with antivirus software, fan control utilities, overlay programs, and other system tools. The Technical Director of Arrowhead confirmed its use and acknowledged the controversy. GameGuard installs to <install-dir>/tools/GGSetup.exe and is removed when the game is uninstalled.
VPN and network optimizers
Network optimization tools (ExitLag, GearUP Booster, LagoFast) officially support Helldivers 2 and report no ban incidents from routing optimization. These tools work at the OS network level and do not inject into the game process. However, GameGuard's aggressive kernel-level monitoring means any tool that interacts with the game process memory or DLLs risks triggering it. Pure network-level routing (WFP driver, VPN) that does not touch the game process is safer than DLL injection.
Known software conflicts
- Antivirus software (reported GameGuard initialization failures with Avast, Kaspersky, Bitdefender)
- Fan control software (GameGuard injects into fan control utilities causing crashes)
- Streaming overlays (OBS, Discord overlay can conflict during GameGuard initialization)

Why ping matters in Helldivers 2
Latency sensitivity MediumPing matters but is not the dominant factor.
Helldivers 2 is a cooperative PvE shooter — there is no direct player-vs-player combat where split-millisecond timing determines outcome. However, the game is quite latency-sensitive for a PvE title because: (1) it uses host-based P2P, so high latency to the host causes rubberband-style desync (per Henderson & Bhatti 2003 FPS QoE study, sub-100ms is the threshold where action-shooter players reliably perceive degradation); (2) Stratagem inputs are timing-sensitive sequences; (3) friendly fire is always on and bullets travel in real-time, meaning lag can cause you to misread teammate positions. In practice, 80–100ms to the host is playable; above 150ms causes noticeable desync.
About Helldivers 2background, studio, esports scene
Helldivers 2 is a third-person cooperative shooter developed by Arrowhead Game Studios and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Released in February 2024, it became one of the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios titles ever, peaking at over 458,000 concurrent Steam players within days of launch.
Players take the role of Helldivers — elite soldiers of Super Earth — fighting in 4-player squads against alien threats (Terminids and Automatons) across a persistent galactic war map called the Galactic War. Missions last 15–40 minutes and involve completing objectives, calling in Stratagems (airdrops of weapons, turrets, and orbital strikes), and extracting under fire.
The game uses a host-based peer-to-peer networking model: one player acts as the session host and the other three connect to them directly. There are no dedicated game servers for match gameplay. Backend servers handle matchmaking, the Galactic War state, progression, and Sony's crossplay infrastructure between PC and PS5.

PingAim detects Helldivers 2 automatically
No manual config. PingAim identifies Helldivers 2 by process name and routes it through your fastest connection using a kernel-level WFP driver.
When does PingAim help — and when doesn't it?
PingAim helps when...
- Phone on 5G tethering as a second interface — PingAim routes mission traffic through whichever has less jitter to the host
- WiFi and Ethernet both active — PingAim picks the lower-latency path to the session host
- Playing with international friends — separates game traffic onto the best available interface
- Streaming or downloading simultaneously — game gets dedicated interface, no bufferbloat
- Dual-WAN — binds Helldivers traffic to the gaming-optimized uplink
- Windows chose the wrong default interface — PingAim overrides for helldivers2.exe specifically
- Backend disconnects from matchmaking/Galactic War when primary connection is congested
Won't help when...
- Only one internet connection available — P2P games need PingAim to have a second interface to offer
- Host has poor upload bandwidth — the fundamental P2P bottleneck PingAim cannot fix
- GameGuard initialization failures — software compatibility issue, not network
- Sony/Arrowhead backend server outages — routing cannot fix the server side
- P2P game — a second connection helps only if it has better routing to the session host than your current one. Less impactful than with dedicated servers, since you cannot pick the host's location.
- nProtect GameGuard is a kernel-level anti-cheat — use PingAim's signed WFP driver mode only and do NOT enable DLL-injection mode for helldivers2.exe; some kernel-level VPN drivers have also caused GameGuard initialization failures, so prefer WFP-only routing
